Phishing WhatsApp: sending personal information and documents

10 May 2022

A scam against Enel customers is in progress these days, through WhatsApp messages coming from accounts impersonating Enel.
The scammers conducting the campaign qualify as Enel operators, the victims of the campaign are contacted via message or call WhatsApp and are asked to send personal information, (eg copies of their identification document).

Here's what the WhatsApp message looks like:

We remind you that the number that Enel Energia uses for WhatsApp communications is 3298710714.

Enel Energia invites anyone who receives e-mails, text messages or suspicious WhatsApp messages/calls not to open or click on the links in the texts, not to download and open attachments (Enel does not send excel files), to pay close attention to any requests for personal codes or confidential data (for example user or password, access codes) since Enel Energia never asks for such codes.

If in doubt, check the authenticity of the request through the usual contact channels: toll-free number 800900860 and www.enel.it website.
