The collaboration between Enel and Rummo, a historic Italian company specializing in the production of high-quality pasta, has led to a project that combines tradition and innovation: the construction of a high-efficiency photovoltaic system for industrial self-consumption. This initiative marks an important step in the energy transition of the Italian agri-food industry and confirms the shared desire to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and promote a more sustainable production model.

Thanks to this collaboration, two Italian leaders—one in the energy sector, the other in the food sector—are joining forces to build a better future based on innovation, responsibility, and respect for the environment.

Advanced Italian-made technologies

At the heart of the agreement between the two companies is the construction of one of the largest photovoltaic plants for industrial self-consumption in Europe. The plant will consist of approximately 15,000 photovoltaic modules produced by 3SUN, the Enel Group's Gigafactory. 3SUN modules, entirely manufactured at the Catania plant, are based on the proprietary HJT CORE – H®technology and are registered under letter C in the ENEA register. 3SUN stands out as the only European Gigafactory capable of producing photovoltaic cells and modules with advanced technology, confirming Italy's strategic role in the energy transition.

The plant will have a total capacity of approximately 9 MWp, representing a significant step towards energy sustainability. The system will be installed on different sections between the roof and the ground; the latter will be equipped with single-axis solar tracking technology, designed to maximize energy production.

With an estimated annual production of between 15 GWh and 17 GWh, the system will cover between 65 and 75% of the Rummo plant's electricity needs, making a concrete contribution to its transition to a more sustainable production model.

The Concrete Benefits of Photovoltaics for Businesses

For businesses, photovoltaics is more than just a technological investment: it is a concrete lever for improving competitiveness and solidity over time. The advantages are visible both operationally, with more efficient and predictable energy management, and on the environmental and reputational levels. Two key benefits stand out, especially in energy-intensive production environments like industry.

Optimizing energy management
Environmental sustainability and industrial responsibility

Optimizing Energy Management

Investing in a high-efficiency photovoltaic system means optimizing energy management, especially for industrial companies with high and continuous demands like Rummo.

Environmental Sustainability and Industrial Responsibility

Beyond the economic benefit, the plant represents a choice of social and environmental responsibility. Thanks to this project, the company will achieve an estimated saving of 3,500 to 4,000 tons of CO₂ emissions each year. Reducing emissions not only contributes to the decarbonization of the agri-food sector, but also generates value for the region and local communities.

Rummo is also committed to continuing on this path with further distributed generation and energy efficiency projects, with the goal of completely decarbonizing the Benevento production site within the next five years.

A strategic partnership for 100% renewable energy

While waiting for the photovoltaic plant to become fully operational, Rummo has chosen Enel 100% renewable for its energy supply for the two-year period 2026–2027. This decision is consistent with the company's vision and its desire to maintain an entirely renewable energy supply during the transition phase.

The agreement confirms Enel's role as the energy partner of choice for Italian companies seeking to accelerate their path to decarbonization, thanks to integrated solutions that combine technological innovation, efficiency, and reduced environmental impact.
