Ebitts: with blockchain, renewable energy is just a few clicks away

With the ebitts project, our Group aims to literally bring the benefits of renewable resources into the homes of anyone who wants to participate, combining efficiency and affordability with a profound paradigm shift in the ways in which we produce and consume energy.

A new energy model for a sustainable future

As an integrated solution, ebitts offers access to the advantages of renewable energy without, however, requiring the installation or proximity of photovoltaic panels or other energy-generating devices.

How? By allowing the acquisition of a Token Box: a digital reproduction of part of an industrial-sized solar or wind power plant.

In fact, thanks to ebitts, even those who are not able to install a home system (for example due to lack of space) can rely on this innovative product, effectively accessing the benefits of self-production of renewable energy even without a physical connection to power plants. In addition, thanks to the virtual use of multiple power plants that utilize different technologies (solar and wind) and are located in different geographical areas, customers are able to reduce their exposure to risk through lost production.

This product is a fantastic example, as concrete as it is innovative, of how technology can remove operational and structural barriers, making clean energy accessible to all. The product offers a twofold advantage: on the one hand, ebitts allows anyone to produce their own energy and therefore reduce electricity bills, on the other hand, it represents one of the easiest and most accessible ways to make an active contribution to an energy system that is cleaner, safer and more resilient.

Token Box: shared values for wellbeing and affordability for everyone

The economic benefits that are reflected in your utility bill, derived from owning each Token Box, are calculated on an hourly basis, based on the renewable electricity generated by the portion of power plants contained in any given customer’s box.

Those who purchase a Token Box can designate up to three beneficiaries from relatives (up to the 2nd degree) and/or cohabitants, on the condition that they are, or become, Enel Energia electricity customers and are in possession of a 2G meter, in the pilot phase of the project.

These beneficiaries not only obtain possible benefits directly on their own electric bills related to their own consumption, but, in addition, if the energy generated by the portions exceeds the hourly consumption of the designated beneficiaries then the excess value is converted into further discounts, in proportion to the revenue made on the sale of the energy surplus on the market.

An energy transition can only be called that if it positions itself as progress that is participatory, shared and equitable. By bringing blockchain into the world of energy, ebitts aims to encourage the increasingly systematic participation of citizens, customers and people in the sustainable development of society.

Each Token Box virtually recreates the precise capacity of different plants distributed in different geographic locations, even very distant from each other. So, thanks to the possibility offered by blockchain, they are ideally united on the same platform, offering our customers an intuitive and secure way to access the benefits of clean energy.

This project was made possible thanks in part to the collaboration with Conio, a leading fintech company in the blockchain sector that supplied the necessary operational support to explore innovative solutions aimed at facilitating access to renewables. It amplifies the positive impact for the territory, the community and people by taking advantage of a technology that guarantees at every moment the security and transparency of transactions and demonstrates how technological progress can remove barriers and distances, making clean energy a resource available to everyone.
