On the side of the future together with Italian companies
«Enabling the energy transition: this is our mission. And customers are our ambassadors on this path towards a more sustainable future». This is how Paola Ferrara, from the Business Marketing team of Enel Energia, describes the new chapter of the ambitious transformation process Enel has long embarked on: betting on energy sustainability together with Italy. Thanks to the work of Ferrara's team, alongside her colleague Paola Iagher, something equally ambitious is happening in the world of production and business. Since October 28, another step forward in the energy transition has been unlocked, one that will help the Italian economy reach the European target of zero emissions by mid-century: all supplies for companies with power up to 50 kW are powered by renewable sources. «We coined a word to describe this transition: we called it verdizzazione. For us and our clients, choosing green is a long-term investment in our country», explains Iagher, while Paola Ferrara emphasizes how this is a task that can only be accomplished together: «Businesses are our partners in the energy transition».
It is a way to build the transition company by company, starting from the smallest ones, the real backbone of our economy. All those with power below the 50 kW threshold who choose Enel Energia will receive a certified supply from renewable sources through the system of guarantees of origin from GSE (Gestore dei Servizi Energetici). They will be powered exclusively by water, wind, sun and the heat of the earth. It is also a way to create a system with consumers, telling them about this stance, that of standing on the side of the future. Enel Energia's business customers can in fact request the Green Kit, with the logo «100% green» to be used on all company materials, to communicate their choice of sustainability, integrate it into their operations, spread the word and build a network. As Paola Iagher explains: «The client thus becomes the co-protagonist of our desire to support the environment. The small businesses that choose us make a clear positioning choice in favour of clean energy».
Francesco Leonardo is another key figure in this story. He works in sales and is the account manager in direct contact with companies whose power exceeds the 50 kW threshold, large companies. In this context, the choice of renewable energy is still an option, to be evaluated case by case, considering the production size and sector-specific needs. Francesco acts as a spokesperson for sustainability. «The larger client target depends greatly on the sensitivity of those managing the case; the dialogue must be built around the ethics of sustainability. What I share always begins with perspective: finding a solution together to use renewable sources is an investment choice, it means looking to the future and preparing to live in it more responsibly». For large companies, as for small ones, verdizzazione is a way to prepare for the next frontier of the energy transition: electrification. «When most consumption and production will be electric, it will be important that electricity comes from clean and renewable sources with zero emissions. Verdizzazione is the driver, the results of which will be seen in the medium term». Reaching the future first means not only doing the right thing environmentally, but also gaining a huge competitive advantage. This is the perspective Francesco Leonardo shares with major clients: getting ahead in sustainability.
Regardless of size, scale or production goals, the scenario for Enel Energia is the same. «We want to build closer and more integrated relationships between us and the client, to join forces and form a team with a shared goal», says Paola Iagher. The horizon is 2050, the neutrality of our lifestyle, the only condition for Italy and the Earth to remain livable for our children and grandchildren. At the COP26 plenary assembly in Glasgow, European Commissioner Franz Timmermans showed a photo of his granddaughter: we must do it for them, he said, his voice nearly breaking with emotion. The meaning is exactly this: building a cleaner path together with businesses. «We have chosen this path clearly, it is no longer just our goal, it is part of our corporate culture», adds Paola Ferrara. «But we don't want to be alone, on the contrary, the purpose of this entire strategy is to make everyone understand that sustainability is an act of responsibility each of us can take on to care for those who come after us».
