Smart habits: the better side of energy use and consumption

What can we do to use energy more wisely and save right away?
Here are a few simple tips that can help you cut electricity use by up to 15% annually*, with minimal changes to your habits:

  • Turn off the oven during the last ten minutes of cooking (-1.5% yearly consumption);
  • Avoid standby mode for TVs, decoders, and game consoles, and don’t leave chargers plugged in (-0.5% yearly consumption);
  • Run washing machines and dishwashers only when fully loaded (1 wash every 2 days instead of daily = -5% yearly consumption; 1 dishwasher load per day instead of 2 = -8% yearly consumption).

And if you have a balcony solar panel, you could reduce your annual electricity consumption by up to 35%**.

If you want to do even more, use only LED lightbulbs and manage indoor temperature to prevent heat loss (Italy's National Plan for Reducing Natural Gas Consumption in winter 2022/2023 recommends keeping indoor temperatures at 19°C to reduce gas consumption by 10%).

* All data reported for the consumption calculation are taken from Paper ENEA May 2022. The parameters are measured on the typical behaviors of a family with average electricity consumption of 2,300 kWh/a.

** Consumption savings estimated on the behaviors of a typical family with annual consumption of 2,300 kWh and an Enel Sun Plug&Play plant production of approximately 470 kWh per year (hypothesis of southern exposure and 95% efficiency).

Ready to take more steps toward change?

For even better results, switch entirely to electricity for daily needs, cooking, heating, cooling, heating water, and even generating your own electricity. With electricity, you can make your home smart!
