Resolution 20/2026/R/com: Suspension of power and gas payments in Calabria, Sardinia, and Sicily (Cyclone Harry)
Resolution 20/2026/R/com has been published, with which the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment approved a package of extraordinary measures to support the populations affected by the exceptional meteorological events that affected the regions of Calabria, Sardinia, and Sicily between January 18 and 22.
In particular, for electricity and gas supplies located in the municipalities identified in the Civil Protection Ordinances of January 30, 2026, no. 1180, and of February 17, 2026, no. 1181, relating to homes or production sites of properties totally or partially destroyed, declared uninhabitable or evacuated following the calamitous events, the Authority has ordered starting from 18 January 2026:
- to suspend for six months the payment terms of bills and payment notices, issued or to be issued, due after the above date. The suspension applies to both consumption fees and connection, activation, deactivation, transfer, and takeover costs;
- to suspend disconnection procedures for non-payment, even if due before January 18, 2026.
To access the benefits, customers with property that has been totally or partially destroyed, declared uninhabitable, or vacated must submit to their seller by April 30, 2026 a substitute declaration certifying the condition of the property.

In the case of an active bank or postal direct debit:
- If the invoice has already been debited before the substitute declaration is sent, you can request a refund directly at the branch or via online banking. of the Credit Institution, using the reason "customer dispute".
- If the invoice has been issued but not yet charged at the time of sending the substitute declaration, you can request suspension of the charge at the branch or through the Credit Institution's home banking.
If you have active direct debit on your PayPal account or credit card, you can request a refund of charges prior to sending the substitute declaration through our customer service.
In any case, direct debit charges will be suspended for invoices issued after receipt of the substitute declaration..
At the end of the suspension period (July 18, 2026), the total amounts starting from 50 euros will be automatically paid in installments without interest, over 12 monthly installments, with a payment schedule consistent with your billing frequency.
You can still pay the amounts in a single payment or agree on a shorter installment plan than the one previously agreed upon.
Amounts under 50 euros will not be paid in installments.
