From 1 January 2021, the gradual overcoming of the "maggior tutela" service for small businesses has begun

2021 saw the gradual overcoming of the standard offer mandatory, but only for small businesses. The low voltage companies with a number of employees between 10 and 50 and an annual turnover between 2 and 10 million euros or which have at least one withdrawal point with contractually committed power have been affected by the overrun to 15 kW.

For other micro-enterprises and non-domestic supplies, the price protections will be exceeded on 31 December 2022. In the period 1 January 2023-31 March 2023, non-domestic customers who have not chosen a seller on the free market will be provisionally supplied from its operator the greater protection to ensure continuity of supply.

What is the 'gradual protection' service

The gradual protection service for small businesses is the service prepared by ARERA (resolution 491/2020) to accompany the transition to the free market of all customers for whom from 1 January 2021 the removal of the price protection or protection services was foreseen (Competition Law 124/2017).
