Apartment block balcony photovoltaic system

Apartment block balcony photovoltaic system

What permits are needed?

To install a photovoltaic panel on a balcony, even in an apartment block, you do not need to submit any paperwork or request for authorisation as it is a “Free Building” intervention. Exceptions to this are cases where the installation takes place in a historical centre or other location with landscape constraints.

If the by-laws of your apartment block do not provide for special aesthetic restrictions on the façade, you do not even need apartment block authorisation and can simply submit a prior notice (Article 1122 bis of the Italian Civil Code).

From a structural viewpoint, when installing balcony solar panels, it is a good idea to check the requirements set out in the installation manual provided by the seller, so that they are compatible with the support bracket. Also make sure that the socket to which the Plug & Play system will be connected complies with the requirements of the CEI 0-21 standard and that it is a “dedicated” socket, i.e. one that is exclusively intended for connection to the photovoltaic system.
