Stories of Sustainability
Stories of Sustainability
From corporate volunteering to projects combating the gender gap and promoting STEM subjects, and from support for the Third Sector to specialised and innovative training: these are the “Stories of Sustainability” told in the video podcast series created together with Claudia Conte, journalist, presenter and human and women's rights activist.
With Claudia, we will be exploring some of the concrete projects that represent our daily commitment to social change and sustainable development in Italy.
Four episodes, online every Friday from 28 June, to explore the areas of sustainability and the values that guide us towards an increasingly fair and inclusive future: an engaging, understandable format involving the very protagonists of the projects narrated, including experts, partners and stakeholders who talk about our bond with the territory and our ongoing commitment to the wellbeing of its communities.

Stories of Sustainability: the launch interview
In this interview, Silvia Fellegara, Enel's Head of Sustainability in Italy talks about our daily commitment to social change and sustainable development in Italy and tells how "Sustainability Stories", Enel’s first video podcast series dedicated to corporate sustainability, was created alongside Claudia Conte, journalist, presenter and human and women's rights activist. Four episodes that will take you on a discovery of some of Enel's sustainable projects in the area and those of Enel Cuore, the Group's non-profit organisation.
Back to School: STEM education against the gender gap
Gender inequality, particularly evident in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines and professions, is the subject at the heart of the first episode. In a global context, where fewer than four out of ten STEM graduates are women, our commitment to inclusive education is also realised with the Back to School project: an initiative in which our female STEM graduate colleagues act as role models in high schools (especially those where they graduated, but not only), encouraging female students to pursue a career in STEM. Our Role Models went back to the classroom to talk about their own experiences and opportunities in the world of work, as seen by a “STEM” woman, but also by involving young women in various activities: a challenge to reward the five winning female students with a refund of their first-year university fees in a STEM faculty; shadowing with a STEM mentor; and also career coaching meetings.
Stories of Sustainability: Back to School
In the first episode of Stories of Sustainability, journalist and presenter Claudia Conte takes us on a tour of Back to School, a training project in STEM disciplines to reduce the gender gap, narrated by two interviewees: Daniela Calarco, Enel Mentor in the initiative, and Maria Grazia, a student from Maddaloni (province of Caserta), who took part in the project.
Albergo Etico: with Enel Cuore Onlus for social and workplace inclusion
The second episode traces the 20-year history of Enel Cuore, our Group's non-profit organisation which, with over 960 projects and 120 million euros, represents an important point of reference for the Third Sector in combating poverty, school drop-outs, marginalisation, and social exclusion.
A panorama in which the labour inclusion of the most fragile continues to be a fundamental objective: in this context, the project Ethical Hotel - Academy of Independence by Download Cooperativa Sociale to concretely promote the professional integration of people with disabilities in the tourism sector, takes on particular importance. An initiative, born in Asti in 2015, which now has 8 accommodation facilities abroad and in Italy, where anyone can find their own personal path to autonomy.
Stories of Sustainability: Ethical Hotel
The second episode of Stories of Sustainability, devised together with journalist and presenter Claudia Conte, features the Albergo Etico - Accademia dell'Indipendenza project supported by our non-profit organisation Enel Cuore alongside Download Cooperativa Sociale, for the concrete promotion of social inclusion and the professional integration of people with disabilities in the tourism sector. Listen to the interview with Filippo Rodriguez, Managing Director of Enel Cuore Onlus, and Alex Toselli, founder of Albergo Etico.
ITSEL Civitavecchia: innovative education for new energy players
Training is the key word of the third episode, in which we recount one of the initiatives we have put in place, on the one hand, to support the retraining of workers, facilitating their transition into new green careers, and on the other hand, to push more and more young people towards the specialisations of the future.
We are talking about the ITSEL Foundation - Higher Technological Institute for Energy in Lazio, of which our Group is a founding member: a two-year educational course, at the Luigi Calamatta Institute of Higher Education (IIS) in Civitavecchia, which aims to train specialised technicians in the energy field. The contribution of former colleagues from our Group was crucial, as they shared their professional and cultural backgrounds, actively participating in the design and organisation of some of the training modules, so as to offer students the opportunity to develop those skills that are crucial for a successful start to their professional careers from the outset.
Stories of Sustainability: Innovative education with ITSEL
In the third episode of Stories of Sustainability, journalist and presenter Claudia Conte delves into the topic of training and innovative teaching that we carry out with the ITSEL Foundation - Higher Technological Institute for Energy in Lazio, of which our Group is a founding partner. In particular, a two-year training course at the Luigi Calamatta Institute of Higher Education (IIS) in Civitavecchia, which aims to train specialist technicians in the energy field. Listen to the protagonists of this episode: Fabrizio Bonemazzi, engineer and former Enel manager, course teacher, and Giovannina Corvaia, school manager of the Civitavecchia Institute.
Enel corporate volunteering: Our time serving the common good
Solidarity and Inclusion, values particularly dear to our Group are explored in the fourth episode: corporate volunteering not only encourages team building and experience sharing, it becomes a central pillar of all those companies that consciously choose, through the active participation of their people, to be an integral part of a sustainable development path that leaves no one behind. In addition to fostering personal growth, corporate volunteering promotes active citizenship to bring value to the local area and contribute to the well-being of communities.
A commitment that in our Group is reflected in the success, in terms of involvement and participation, of the corporate volunteering programme. During 2023, some 900 Italian colleagues decided to take a day's paid leave to take part, in a collaborative spirit, in 95 initiatives ranging from environmental protection to social inclusion. In Italy from 2019 to date, more than 1,800 people have joined Enel Volunteer initiatives throughout the country in support of many Third Sector realities, some already part of the Enel Cuore Onlus ecosystem. This is an important number testifying to the enthusiasm with which a programme that allows our colleagues to put their professional and human skills at the disposal of those most in need and at the service of the Community has been welcomed.
Stories of Sustainability: Corporate volunteering
In the fourth and final episode of Stories of Sustainability, journalist and presenter Claudia Conte discusses the topic of solidarity and social inclusion in the context of our corporate volunteering programme. A commitment that our Group carries out throughout the country with the involvement of many volunteer colleagues in numerous Third Sector projects, supporting various realities, some already part of the Enel Cuore Onlus ecosystem, including Caritas. Listen to the interview with Fernanda Panvini, Head of Sustainability Initiatives and Circular Economy, Enel and Gianni Pizzuti, coordinator of Caritas volunteer projects.
