When the Amerigo Vespucci navigates the sea, it brings with it not only the wind in its sails, but also a breeze of Italian history and excellence. The Navy’s famous sailing ship, the ambassador of Made in Italy worldwide, docked on March 1st in Trieste for a celebration that combined tradition and innovation and the past with the future.

It was an extraordinary event, in which our Group participated as an Official Partner, a testimony of the bond between innovation, energy and sustainability. We are committed to promoting Italian excellence on a global level, merging our experience as a reliable energy partner with the offer of cutting-edge clean energy solutions. The partnership with the Amerigo Vespucci reinforces our outreach with people and communities, helps us to deepen our roots in local areas and creates opportunities for dialogue and collaboration with institutions and the public during every stop along the tour.
After having traveled more than 46,000 nautical miles during its 2023-2025 World Tour, the educational ship has now kicked off its Mediterranean Tour, a journey that will reach 17 cities before concluding for the grand finale in Genoa for Navy Day, on June 10th.

The beating heart of the celebration

Trieste, a city overlooking the Adriatic Sea and with a centuries-old maritime tradition, gave a warm welcome to the Amerigo Vespucci. The sailing ship’s arrival was met with an extraordinary celebration involving events by sea, in the air and on land. A Special Edition was held of the Barcolana, a historic sailing regatta normally held every year in October in the Gulf of Trieste. There was also a flyover by the Frecce Tricolori from the Italian Air Force’s National Acrobatic Team and the evocative jump of paratroopers from the Navy’s Special Operation Forces. The events were certainly a special tribute to a ship that embodies both Italian excellence and pride.

Highlighting the link between culture, the sea and innovation was the Nave Trieste, the Navy’s most modern vessel, which was moored alongside the Amerigo Vespucci. The modern ship offers 245 meters of advanced technology symbolizing the present and future of the Italian naval forces.

Between the past and future

The arrival of the Amerigo Vespucci in Trieste also marked the debut of the "Villaggio IN Italia", a project created to share Italian excellence in all its many forms. Organized by the Ministry of Defense, with the collaboration of 12 different government ministries, the exhibition space offers visitors an immersion into the national culture, from art and music to gastronomy and technology. Among the initiatives, there was a special focus on valuing skills and workplace inclusivity, with time allocated for discussions between experts and institutions.

Art also played a prominent role, with an exhibit of the bronze sculpture "La David" by Jago, one of Italy’s most celebrated contemporary artists. Meanwhile, the photography exhibition "A tutto tondo – the World Tour of the sailing ship the Amerigo Vespucci" by Massimo Sestini allowed visitors to relive the most picturesque stops in ports around the world from the ship’s voyage.

The celebration also featured live music, with performances by the Navy Band, the brass band of the 11th Bersaglieri Regiment and the brass band of the 4th Carabinieri Mounted Regiment. It was a crescendo of emotions culminating in three days of events open to the public.

The Amerigo Vespucci is not just a ship, but also a symbol that transcends time. Built in 1931, the ship has played a part in the training of generations of navy officers, passing on the values of discipline, knowledge and love of the sea. Today, as it continues to sail between continents, its message remains intact: tradition is renewed, innovation is rooted in the past and Italy continues to look beyond the horizon.
