ENEL ONE: the new offer that gives value to your energy
«Finally now it is energy that adapts to people's needs and not the other way around». This is how Andrea Gusmaroli sums up Enel One, the new offer from Enel Energia that rewrites what we knew about managing electricity supply, exploiting all the potential of the new second-generation meters. Gusmaroli is the product owner who has followed the development of the Enel One project from its conception. «Our primary goal is to meet customers’ needs. They were the ones who directed us toward the three fundamental features of the offer: simplicity, the ability to know costs in advance and awareness of consumption».
The starting point of Enel One is the choice of the plan: each is characterized by a single fixed monthly cost corresponding to an available amount of energy. There are five plans, because not all households are the same: the plans are designed to meet the different needs of domestic energy users in Italy. It starts with MINI, 33 euros for 100 kWh per month, ideal for a single person living alone. There is BASIC, tailored for a couple: 42 euros for 150 kWh. For those who are three, perhaps a family with a child, there is PLUS: 52 euros for 200 kWh. The plan designed for four people is called SUPER: 70 euros for 300 kWh, and finally ULTRA, the plan imagined for large families, those with the most complex energy needs: 83 euros to consume up to 370 kWh per month.
Needs change not only from home to home but also over time within the same home. Summer consumption differs from winter consumption, there are periods that are more energy-intensive (the lockdown taught us this) and others that are lighter. The integration of Enel One with the new generation meters allows the monitoring of supply and adapting it to the evolution of needs throughout the year. «Thanks to these tools the customer knows their consumption in daily detail», explains Stefano Dindalini from the Digital Solutions team, the Enel Energia team that took care of the design and technical development of Enel One. «With consumption awareness and ease of operations, customers can change plans freely and with just a few simple steps, for example anticipating summer and a more intense use of air conditioners, and then return to the previous plan when summer ends».
The offer is not only designed for digital natives, the steps are so simple that they are accessible to everyone. The foundations of Enel One’s approach are, as Andrea explains, «peace of mind and serenity, an easy-to-understand product that allows customers to manage their electricity supply in a relaxed way».
The journey in developing Enel One began at the end of 2019 and involved a rather large working group, from product to marketing, from digital solutions to design. Preliminary meetings allowed the definition of the major challenge of the initial concept, an energy supply that would speak the language of subscription model services and adapt to people's needs, and then moved to the innovation phase, the creation of the real offer. In the meantime, there was the pandemic, which brought the complexity of remote working but also allowed the understanding that putting the power of choice clearly and intuitively in the hands of people was the right direction.
«The lockdown amplified the need for flexibility like never before, we saw how daily life could be changed and rewritten suddenly, there was a need for energy that could adapt autonomously and easily to these changes».
By July 2020 the product was ready, and there was an initial testing phase and further listening to customer needs, because great changes must be refined down to the smallest detail. After the final refinements, it was launched on the market.
Much of what we knew about how an energy supply works has been rewritten to create Enel One. For example, traditional bills will be replaced by a new digital monthly receipt, clear and easy to read. «It answers the three questions that really matter to people: how much I have consumed, how much I am spending and with which tariff plan». The receipt is sent by email and can be consulted from the app or the Customer Area, without paper waste, a step forward that also has green value.
Enel One is also integrated with Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant. Through the official Enel Energia Skill, customers can not only get information about the offer and the available plans but, with a simple voice command, can also ask Alexa to change their plan. Moreover, with Alexa it is possible to monitor daily consumption recorded by the meter and check the balance within the E-Box savings account.
This savings account is the element that closes the innovation circle contained in the Enel One offer: each plan has a predetermined kWh content, if consumption is lower or higher than the threshold, no problem! The energy is not lost but is economically valued in the customer’s savings account, and then monetized every twelve months with a credit or debit on the receipt. Customers are notified when they are approaching the threshold set by their plan, through a notification from the app. «In this way people have constant awareness of their consumption, without the risk of unpleasant surprises».
Enel One is an offer with an eco-sustainable soul. For consumption control, for its full digital and paper-free nature and because the energy is certified as produced from renewable sources such as water, sun, wind and the earth’s heat, guaranteed by the "Guarantees of Origin" system of the Energy Services Manager, according to EC directive 2009/28/EC.
The declaration of intent behind this revolution is contained entirely in the name of the offer, Enel One. Gusmaroli explains it to us: «We chose the number one because it sums up our desire to give the customer the simplicity of a single, predictable and easily recognizable cost item, compared to a multitude of amounts and lines in which it was often easy to get lost: all your energy in a single fixed monthly cost».
And there is also a second meaning in that «One»: «For us Enel One is only the beginning, toward the horizon of a unique ecosystem where all services for the home can be found, from fiber optics to entertainment, starting from energy».
Enel One is a simplification of energy like never seen before: an easy and conscious management, a transparent offer on which the customer can intervene whenever they want and in a flexible way, thanks to digital tools. It is the beginning of a future in which all the tools, from digital to new meters, work together to put energy at the service of people, their lives and their needs.
