What are Renewable Energy Communities and what benefits can you gain?
A Renewable Energy Community (REC) is an opportunity for citizens, public administrations, and businesses (SMEs) to come together to produce and virtually share local energy from renewable sources, with the aim of providing economic, social, and environmental benefits to each member of the community.

Free membership

You can join the energy community at no cost.

Economic benefits

For every kWh of energy produced and virtually consumed within the community, you can receive a financial bonus.

Environmental benefits

Produce and consume renewable energy, reducing CO2 emissions.

No bureaucracy

With Enel Energia, you’ll find the support you need to sign up easily.

How to join a Renewable Energy Community

Are you a private citizen, an SME, or a public administration?

Join a Renewable Energy Community for free and you can gain economic benefits from the energy produced and fed into the grid by someone else’s system without needing one of your own.

Are you an SME with a photovoltaic system you can make use of?

Virtually share with the Renewable Energy Community the energy produced by your company’s system. If you don’t have a system, we’ll support you in building one through Enel X Italia, and help you gain additional benefits by including it in the Renewable Energy Community.

Do you have a roof, land, or a large surface to rent or sell?

Make a plot of land, roof, or industrial surface available to enable the construction—through Enel X Italia—of a new renewable energy production system to be used by a Renewable Energy Community.

Plus, if you become an Enel Energia customer, the benefits increase!

In addition to the positive impact on individuals, organizations, and communities involved, with Enel Energia you can take advantage of even more benefits.

FAQ

What happens when it’s cloudy or at night?

Solar radiation is not constant over time, which results in fluctuations in electricity production through photovoltaic panels, affected by weather conditions and the season.
State incentives are linked to the amount of energy produced and virtually consumed by members of the Community at the same time, and therefore may vary based on the amount of energy generated.

Do I need to be an Enel customer to join a Renewable Energy Community?

No. You don’t need to be an Enel customer to join a Renewable Energy Community.

How can I check when I actually start virtually consuming the energy produced by the system included in the REC?

If you use energy during the time slots when solar radiation is strongest, the likelihood of virtually consuming the energy produced by the system included in the REC is higher.
However, it is not possible to know in real time whether you are using energy produced by the REC’s system.
