WEEE Information
Consumer information pursuant to Article 11(1) of Legislative Decree. 49/14 as amended, concerning the "one-for-one" take-back of WEEE by Enel X Way Italia. Communication pursuant to Art. 11(3) of Legislative Decree. 49/14 and Art. 49/14, concerning the 'one-for-zero' take-back of WEEE.
What is WEEE?
WEEE stands for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE), i.e. the waste of all equipment which is dependent on electric currents or electromagnetic fields for correct operation, and equipment for the generation, transfer, and measurement of these currents and fields, designed for use with a voltage of no more than 1000 volts for alternating current and 1500 volts for direct current (Art. 4 (1) (a) Legislative Decree. 49/2014).
By way of example only, among the products on sale on enel.it the Waybox is to be considered EEE. Support services, rental fees, and software products are excluded.
EEE is identified by the “crossed-out wheelie bin” identification mark, according to Art. 28, Legislative Decree 49/2014, affixed on the packaging and/or equipment, indicating the need for separate waste collection.
How should WEEE be handled?
The WEEE Decree (Legislative Decree 49/2014) stipulates that no EEE must go into the normal municipal solid waste stream, but must follow a separate collection procedure, favouring the recovery and recycling of the materials of which they are made.
Violation of legal obligations, even by private citizens, is punishable by administrative and criminal penalties.
Improper disposal of WEEE can lead to serious damage to the environment and human health due to the hazardous substances that may be contained in the equipment or its components.
“ONE-FOR-ONE” at the time of purchase
In compliance with Art. 11 (1) of Legislative Decree 49/2014, customers are informed that Enel X Way Italia, when supplying a new EEE intended for household use, ensures the free take-back of the old EEE ("one-for-one" take-back) serving the same purpose.
How to apply for free WEEE take-back
If you have purchased an EEE on the enel.it website, you can request a free take-back service for your equivalent WEEE. To use this service, it is necessary, during the purchase process for the new product, to explicitly request the free take-back of the used product by selecting YES in the “Take-back of used products”' section.
The WEEE take-back service is offered free of charge in all Italian provinces.
How does the WEEE take-back service work?
For the WEEE take-back service, the old product is collected when the new EEE is delivered.
In the case of EEE requiring installation, free take-back is guaranteed when the new EEE is installed.
Please note that the collection address of the equipment to be taken back (WEEE) must be the same as the delivery address for the newly purchased EEE.
It should be noted that:
- the free take-back of WEEE (1-on-1 regulated by DM no. 65/2010”, as envisaged in Art. 11 (1) of D. Lgs.49/2014) takes place on condition that it comes from a household, and that it is of an equivalent type, i.e. it has performed the same functions as the newly purchased equipment;
- there is no free take-back for the purchase of products not belonging to the EEE categories listed in Annexes 3 and 4 of Legislative Decree 49/2014;
- WEEE involving contamination or safety risks will not be taken back by pick-up personnel;
- WEEE will not be taken back if it is missing essential parts or has tampered components.
For the collection of a WEEE containing personal data (telephone number in the address book, photographs and films, files, etc.), the customer shall proceed autonomously with the deletion of same, thus releasing Enel X Way Italia from any responsibility with reference to privacy regulations (Legislative Decree 196/2003).
“ONE-FOR-ZERO” from distributors even without purchase. What is “one for zero”?
The “one for zero” provided for in Art. 11(2) of Legislative Decree no. 49 of 2014 is the right that every person can use when bringing in a very small WEEE without the obligation to buy new equipment.
For "very small WEEE" the customer shall:
- check that said WEEE is within the indicated size (max. 25 cm long side);
- remove the battery where possible and place it in the appropriate container;
- deliver the WEEE to municipal collection points or to specialised large-scale retail shops with a sales area of more than 400 m2.
Delivery to connection points
The consumer may deliver the EEE to the Municipal Collection Centres indicated by the WEEE Coordination Centre at www.cdcraee.it
