How to install a photovoltaic system on the roof
Whether in an apartment block or a detached house, a roof-mounted photovoltaic system can enable you to self-produce electricity and save on your power bills. But there are several aspects to consider, especially when it comes to possible permits for an installation that is in line with current regulations. Here is all the information you need and other useful tips for getting started with your installation.
Do you live in a detached house?
If the property on which the system is to be installed does not fall within an area subject to constraints (environmental, historical, artistic, landscape, etc.), subject to the different provisions of the municipal urban planning measures, a photovoltaic system may be installed without the need for authorisation. However, transmission to the grid operator of the “Single Form for the construction, connection and operation of small integrated photovoltaic systems on building roofs” is required.
The Form consists of two parts: the first can be completed and sent before the work begins, the second must be completed and sent at the end of the work.
If, on the other hand, the property is located in an area subject to constraints, it will be necessary to obtain a landscape permit from the competent authorities in the area and to apply for an ordinary or simplified authorisation as in the case of other building works.
What if I live in an apartment block?
If you own the portion of the roof, there is no need to apply for a permit, but only to notify the block. In the case of shared ownership, however, specific authorisation is required. In addition, if the property on which the system is to be installed does not fall within an area subject to constraints (environmental, historical, artistic, landscape, etc.), subject to the different prescriptions of municipal urban planning instruments, the photovoltaic system may be installed without the need for authorisation, but will require transmission to the grid operator of the “Single form for the construction, connection and operation of small integrated photovoltaic systems on building roofs”, which we outlined in the previous section.
