What is PSV?

The PSV or Virtual Trading Point is the meeting point between supply and demand in the gas market in Italy. It is in this virtual location that the wholesale gas price is defined and, based on this value, gas suppliers set the price of the raw material gas to be charged to end customers. For more information, see the PSV page.

What is PSV and where can I find it?

The PSV (acronym for Virtual Trading Point) is an electronic system administered by the Gestore dei mercati energetici (GME) and used as a reference hub for setting the price of the wholesale gas raw material component. The PSV represents the meeting point between supply and demand in the gas market on a national basis. The national figure is an average that takes into account the prices formed in different parts of Italy and at different times of the day. For more information, see the PSV page.

What does the gas cost consist of?

The offer includes a price composed of:

  • a gas raw material component price, equal to the PSV, excluding VAT and taxes, defined on a monthly basis. This is the monthly arithmetic average, rounded to the third decimal place, of the following prices expressed in Euro/MWh related to PSV ICIS HEREN for each working day of the month: (a) the price obtained as the average of the "bid" and "offer" quotes reported in the "PSV Price Assessment Day-Ahead" section of the previous working day for each non-working day (including weekends) of the month; (b) the price obtained as the average of the "bid" and "offer" quotes reported in the "PSV Price Assessment Weekend" section of the previous first working day, published in the ICIS Heren Report. Working and non-working days are based on the London business calendar. If, during the twelve months from the application of these CTE conditions, the PSV value exceeds the maximum value indicated in the CTE, the billed gas raw material component price will be capped at that maximum value.

  • a consumption-based contribution (α), excluding VAT and taxes, fixed for the first 12 months, which is added to the gas raw material component price (equal to the PSV) as described above, and represents the share of raw material costs not covered by the PSV. This consumption contribution is valid for the first 12 months of supply.

  • a commercialization and sales fee (also referred to as CCV Gas) equal to €168/POD/year, to be paid on a monthly basis. This fee is fixed for 12 months starting from the supply activation date (as per Article 2 of the General Supply Conditions, hereinafter CGF).

The gas raw material component price (PSV + α), excluding VAT and taxes, accounts for approximately 53% of the total cost of natural gas (excluding VAT and taxes) for a typical domestic customer with annual consumption of 1,100 Smc.

The cost for the transport service and meter management and the cost for system charges consist of the fees charged to Enel Energia related to the services of gas transport, distribution, and metering, and system charges as defined, published, and updated by ARERA for the tariff area where the supply point is located. Additional charges may apply in the event of customer default, based on the applicable regulations for gas supply, as indicated in ARERA Resolution 593/2017/R/com and subsequent amendments.

For more details, refer to the expense breakdown percentages in the bill.

How is the security deposit calculated?

The security deposit, which will be refunded to you in the final adjustment bill, is calculated according to the number of cubic metres.

If you need more information, see the PDF on the amounts charged for the security deposit.

Should you withdraw from the contract, repayment of the deposit is increased by the legal interest rate.
