How to read the Enel Energia power bill

The Enel Energia power bill is organized to provide customers with key information about their supply and consumption, in accordance with the regulations set by the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment (ARERA).

Here you will find a sample of your bill, followed by a detailed explanation of each item.

What are the items on the Enel Energia power bill?

At the top of the first page of the new Enel Energia power bill, you will find:

  • your tax code;
  • customer number;
  • symbol for the power supply.

Below are the other details:

  • the name of the offer you subscribed to;
  • the offer’s expiration date;
  • your email address, where the web bill is sent;
  • the billing delivery address.

Below the details about your offer, you will find other useful information:

  • the billing period the invoice refers to;
  • the type of supply the invoice refers to (in this case, power);
  • the invoice number and date.

Below these details, on the left side, you will find:

  • the total bill amount to be paid, broken down into: supply charges only, additional services, and TV license fee;
  • the payment due date and the payment method chosen by the customer (e.g., direct debit from bank account);
  • information about the payment status (e.g., regular/not regular).

On the right side, you will find the following information:

  • the total consumption recorded during the billing period;
  • an overview of the total annual consumption broken down by power consumption time bands;
  • the expiration date of the social bonus for economic hardship (for those who qualify).

Finally, at the bottom of the page on the left, you will find information about customer service (e.g., to report a fault) and all our contact details: toll-free number, Spazio Enel, postal service, and website.

On the right, there is a section with all the “vantaggi a te dedicati”: bonuses and discounts applied to the bill related to the offers you have chosen, news for members of the ENELtiPREMIA loyalty program, and various commercial initiatives.

On the second page of the new Enel Energia power bill, you will find two new sections related to the billed amounts.

In the first section, “Scontrino dell'Energia”, you will immediately find the following information:

  • the POD code of the power supply;
  • the contracted power;
  • the address of the supply, that is, the location where the power meter is installed.

Below, you will find information on how the final bill amount is calculated in relation to the billed volumes and the average unit price.

Specifically, the "Scontrino dell'Energia" is divided into:

  • Consumption charges: split into power consumption costs and costs for the network and system charges;
  • Fixed charge and power charge: the first is divided into power consumption costs and costs for the network and system charges; the second relates only to costs for the network and system charges;
  • Other items;
  • Social bonus (if applicable);
  • Excise duties and VAT;
  • Additional services;
  • TV license fee.

If you want to see the detailed breakdown of the amounts, consult the detailed bill by accessing the Customer Area, Bills section, and selecting “Bolletta di dettaglio”; or access the Enel Energia App, go to the supply details, tap “Bollette”, select the bill, and choose “Scarica bolletta di dettaglio”.

Cost of Power Sale

The cost of power sale is determined based on the sales fees specified in your contract and indicated in the Offer Box. It includes the costs of the power itself and the trading activities carried out to supply electricity directly to your home. These costs consist of a variable component, depending on the type of product chosen, and other fixed and variable amounts.

In addition to the costs necessary for purchasing power, you will find:

  • Dispatching costs, which cover the service that ensures the balance between power demand and supply at all times;
  • Imbalance charges, added to the cost of the energy commodity. These are not fixed costs but are calculated based on your power consumption and cover expenses incurred by the national grid operator for purchasing the share of energy not produced by domestic power plants from abroad.

Cost of the Network and General System Charges

This includes amounts for activities related to the transmission of power over the national transmission networks, local distribution, and metering services; the fees for these activities are set uniformly across the country by the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and Environment (ARERA), taking into account the costs incurred for such activities.

The item also includes general system charges, related to activities of general interest and, in particular, for the power sector, support for renewable energy sources. These amounts are also periodically defined by ARERA and therefore do not depend on the supplier.

The amounts paid for these activities are divided into a Fixed Charge (€/month) and a Variable Charge (€/kWh); the fixed charge does not apply to supplies at your residence. For non-domestic customers, a power charge (€/kW) is also applied.

Excise Duties and VAT

These are costs collected by the power supplier on behalf of the State and local authorities.

Average Price

The average price represents a summarized average value. The individual prices and fees applied to the quantities consumed are detailed in the Breakdown Elements.

In the second section, “Box dell'offerta,” you will immediately find the following information related to your offer:

  • the name of the offer;
  • the type of offer;
  • the price type;
  • the offer code;
  • the characteristics of the offer;
  • the presence of early termination fees;
  • the contract expiration date;
  • the start date of the economic conditions;
  • the expiration date of the economic conditions;
  • the total cost for the sale of power, broken down into consumption charge and fixed charge.

Below this information, you will find the price formula for the consumption charge, including the following data:

  • the reference index;
  • the frequency of the index update;
  • the values applied during the different periods.

On the third page of the new Enel Energia power bill, at the top, you will find the technical characteristics of the supply, including the following data:

  • the activation date of the supply;
  • the reference distributor;
  • the type of power meter;
  • the supply voltage;
  • the available power;
  • the maximum power level;
  • the customer type.

Below you will find the section “Letture e consumi” where the following information is reported:

  • the summary of readings, specifying the type: actual or estimated;

  • the detail of consumption (expressed in kWh) recorded and billed during the billing period.

If your supply is powered by an electronic and remotely read meter (including the 2G meter), it is no longer necessary to provide your self-reading (Deliberation 738/16 ARERA).

If, exceptionally, the remote reading is not detected for two consecutive months, in cases provided by current regulations, you will find in the bill, in the section “Mix energetico e altre informazioni,” instructions on how to communicate the reading.

If your supply is powered by a single-rate meter that is not remotely read, you can continue to provide your self-reading according to the methods indicated in the bill under the section “Mix energetico e altre informazioni.”

REMEMBER: the reading you provide will be used for calculating the next bill only if validated by the distributor.

Next, you will find the section “Informazioni storiche” with the following information:

  • the annual cost, including the reference period;

  • the summary of annual consumption (expressed in kWh).

Finally, at the bottom of the third page, you will find the chart showing the trend over the last eighteen months of:

  • total monthly consumption distributed by time bands;

  • monthly power peaks distributed by time bands (only for the last twelve months).

At the top of the fourth page, you will find a box with additional information related to your offer and any extra services.

Below you will find the “Dettaglio fiscale”, which reports, in addition to the total energy cost, expenses for other items not subject to VAT, and the item “altre voci e importi” (e.g., TV license fee), the entries related to total taxes and VAT, to understand their impact on the final price to be paid:

  • Excise duties (consumption taxes) that vary depending on the amount of power consumed;

  • VAT (10% for domestic use and 22% for other uses).

Finally, you will also find a small section related to “Oneri generali di sistema” covering the costs of:

  • ASOS component (costs for supporting renewable sources and cogeneration);

  • ARIM component (other charges related to activities of general interest).

On the following pages of the bill, you will find various useful information and a glossary of the main items.

To view the amounts in the detailed bill, access the Customer Area or the Enel Energia App.
